This workshop on Building a Thinking Classroom: Strategies to Encourage Student-Led Math Learning is designed to help educators create thinking-rich environments where students take ownership of their mathematical learning.
Grounded in Peter Liljedahl’s research on Thinking Classrooms, the session explores practical strategies that encourage collaboration, inquiry, and problem-solving. Participants will experience how simple structural shifts—such as random groupings, vertical work surfaces, and low-floor/high-ceiling tasks—can promote mathematical reasoning and engagement.
The workshop also connects these approaches with the principles of NEP 2020 and NCF 2023, emphasizing critical thinking, formative assessment, and student-led exploration.
By the end of the session, teachers will be equipped with strategies to transform their math classrooms into spaces where students think, discuss, and construct knowledge collaboratively.
